Bath Sanctuary Lunar Inspired

I wanted our bathroom to be a retreat, a little sanctuary in a busy family home. This small room delivers volumes of light, nature and calm. It’s private, yet connected to the elements, a perfect lookout to the stars and moon from the ‘sky’ window. The high ceilings also help the bathroom feel more spacious with the high window bringing in gorgeous east light that allows the room glow in the morning.

Easy access shower, with controls outside to get the temperature right before you get wet. Wall mounted toilet and sink allow for easy cleaning the space to flow.

There is also some lunar inspiration with the surface of the tiles and light fittings, I tell Iarlaith the lights are planets, moons and a solar eclipse, seeing the moon through the high-level window makes it even more resonant. Simple lighting worked best for this calm room and we also added dimmer switches which is a nice feature for a bathroom. After years of renting, it’s very satisfying to have a beautifully formed room to feel new in every day. Bathrooms are hard work to get right, it’s not just about the sanitary ware or tiles, they are most successful when the architecture makes the space for the activities, a window with a view for the bath, high level window centred above the mirror and well placed and controlled lighting.
