It’s hard to imagine the need for heating during the current heatwave, but the ‘winter is coming’ as they say. Our underfloor heating piping was installed last month. It will be powered by an air to water heat pump. This was the best option for our site, while using a renewable heat source.
I included more thermostats in our system to give greater control, it will be interesting to see how much heating we will really need, with a super insulated and airtight home. I preferred to have it installed, as it would be impossible to retrofit after the build. The nerd in me looks forward to tracking the energy usage over time and find the optimum/most efficient operating mode for the house.
For hot weather, I’ve designed lots of cross ventilation with large openings, it’s the best way to draw a breeze through the spaces. We will also have electric blinds that we can operate remotely, to limit overheating when we’re not around.
We had a bit of quiet spell on site recently, but we will have our screed poured next week so we can crack on with electrics, final air tightness and pumping cellulose. We’ll also be able to take down our scaffolding in a couple of weeks. This will be very exciting to see our house emerge from its cocoon! More updates to come on cladding completion and capping. Enjoy the rest of the sunshine and holidays if you’re lucky enough to be on one. We go down to the local beach and tell Iarlalith he’s on his holidays! He’s just happy to splashing about in the water and pockets full of sand home.
