Laying Floor Insulation

It’s race week in Galway and builder’s holidays, so I’ve a chance to catch-up on work and post some activity from last month. Cian had the awkward job of laying the floor insulation, putting down the plastic sheeting and preparing the floor for underfloor heating. The most difficult part of this job was cutting around the pipework for the plumbing. The bathroom and utility areas took the longest. It’s good to be able to do some of the jobs ourselves, it cuts back on the costs, but it takes a lot longer. Cian also said that all the jobs he’s done so far will be covered up eventually. There are just so many jobs in making a home that you never see when all is done and dusted. He has done a really tidy job with the insulation and when it’s your own house, you don’t take any short cuts.  My contribution to this work was to do a walk around site and say ‘you missed a bit there’ super helpful, I know!

@Irishecohomes also came back to tape the base of the windows for airtightness as we won’t be able to do this once the concrete is poured, as we will have a polished floor. This was a last-minute spot from us, but we were really happy Adrian came back to do this, as it would’ve taken us a while and our attempt would be a far cry from the pros.

Another small job that you don’t want to miss is getting the wiring for the kitchen Island done below the insulation goes down.

The site is at a bit of a standstill internally at the moment, as we wait for our concrete guy to be ready to pour the screed. There is always a critical path item and we’re at that point. Fingers crossed we’ll be back in action shortly.  Meanwhile, I can get on with ordering appliances and finalising details of the kitchen. I look forward to share our design with @connellykitchens, Maureen and Sean have been great to work with, the design of the kitchen is the hardest working part of the house. Obviously, I’ve been devouring magazines and Instagram accounts trying to gather all the top tips, more on this later.
