My stomach was sick with excitement on the first morning of the timber frame assembly. If I was a child again, I guess it would have been the ultimate Christmas morning without the reindeers and Santy. Irish Eco Homes brought our presents on trailers and trucks. It felt like one of the best days of my life, like a wedding or childbirth without the pain and fuss of the latter.
I’m not a religious person, but somehow all the planets and stars aligned to give us perfect conditions to assemble our frame. Cian’s mum Máirín passed away a couple of years ago, but I bet you she called in all the favours (up there) to get it right, it’s hard to believe the site was covered in hailstones 5 days ago.
Good weather is not enough though, we also have a brilliant contractor in Irish Eco Homes, who translated our design and managed to make it look easy. Even if it’s really hard physical work, they bring such joy and ease to this translation. Adrian was right when he said the real magic happens on site. It definitely feels like there is some kind of alchemy at work jumping from models and drawings to real space. At one point in the morning, I turned to Cian and said I think I’m going to cry. The translation did something to my brain where it was in disbelief that it was happening in front of our eyes. These guys don’t hang around as they say, they’re there to get the job done. We’re not finished yet, but we are definitely heading towards our destination.
