After nearly 2 years on site, we finally get to sleep and live in our new home.
The first morning waking up was like the first morning with a new born, just love at first sight and a sense of disbelief that it and we have arrived. We’ve gradually getting to know our home, it’s changing light, views and spaces.
The kids took to it straight away and instantly started to play and have fun, they have so much scope for all their games and hijinks. At the end of the day, with all the design and detailing, the goal has been to make a home to raise and nurture our family. We raised a toast with our extended family last weekend and there was such comfort with 15 adults and kids milling around each other. I’m so happy that we’ve made a place for us to come together.
There is an alchemy that happens that changes a construction site into a home, your objects and life come into a space and bring their own spirit and sense of home and our old rented house ‘emptied’ of us now feels like a shell, no longer our home. We made wonderful happy memories in our first landing place, living through the pandemic. But now we’ve got something of our own, that we created with all the brilliant skilled trades and I am so grateful to all the hands and minds that helped build our home.
